Building Trades

2 Year Program

Students will learn the fundamental practical skills needed in the construction field, such as: proper use of hand and power tools,
safety procedures, blueprint reading, and obtaining accurate measurements. Practical knowledge will be applied by working with drywall installation, rough and finish carpentry, framing, painting, roofing, floor installation, door and window installation, siding, restoration work, and more.

Develop skills necessary to use and operate the same tools as a master carpenter.

Additional Information

Students are responsible for purchasing work boots and basic hand tools.
Students are required to be dressed safely and appropriately to participate in labs.

Classroom Information

Large class size (28+)
Safety Standards are rigorous (OSHA compliance mandated)
Physically demanding
Building Trades Shop activities can be very loud
Building Trades Shop is very large and spread out
Students are outside working year-round on house job site which includes working on ladders, scaffolding, roof, etc.
Students will be required to work outside and in all weather conditions
Instruction is done in large groups with a lecture/ demonstration of content presented visually and orally
