About OPALS (OPen-source Automated Library System)

OPALS is an open source initiative that is well supported by librarians around the world which receives high customer satisfaction ratings. Full-time, dependable OPALS technical support and software engineers work diligently to support our community. 

The OPALS ILS is part of the NYS DREAM consortium price list.  The New York State DREAM Consortium is managed by the School Library System of the Capital Region BOCES to facilitate access to online resources for participating systems across the state

Librarians drive OPALS development by writing innovative system function specifications and testing engineered updates.

About the OPALS Library Automation Service

The OPALS Library Automation Service (CoSer) provides full automation of a school library. Our library automation team works to coordinate all aspects of planning, implementation, and ongoing training and support for libraries using the company's integrated library automation system.

Frequently Asked Questions

  1. Which OPALS library automation software does the WNYRIC regional library automation service support? We support the current version of the OPALS MediaFlex open-source software supplied by the vendor.  Additional support is provided on the BEST-MARC Metadata Management service as well as the add-on modules for OPALS (equipment, textbook and DPS database management client).

  2. What training and support is provided thru the CoSer?  See the PDF link provided on the front page under Automation Systems.
