| Our consortium has a mission to build a community of educational professionals working together to collaborate on ideas, problem-solve, share resources and support each other to expand the student empowerment movement. Our vision is to increase students' access to high-quality, rigorous learning experiences and create a setting (student innovation class) that empowers students to cultivate leadership and 21st Century Skills to positively impact the world. Members of the consortium are currently implementing (or plan to in the future) an innovation class to provide students an opportunity to learn through the development of leadership skills, teamwork and collaboration, research, public speaking, problem-solving, technology, time management, persistence, and risk-taking. Creativity, curiosity, and speaking one's truth are highly valued. The components of the program that support these skills will include a series of project-based challenges in the first half of the year that will serve as the students' "toolbox.” In the second half of the year, students will design a driving question based on personal interest and consider how they may impact their local or global community. Students will research and meet with mentors to answer their question, create a product that represents what they have learned, and present their process to an audience of educators, parents, and other community members. |
