HVAC Technician
Upon completion of this course, you will have the skills needed to obtain employment as an entry-level HVAC technician. You will learn to install, service and trouble shoot residential and commercial air conditioning, refrigeration and heating equipment. Instructors will use hands-on activities to bring workplace skills to the classroom. You will take the EPA 608 Certification Exam. (300 Hour Program)

Tuition $6,000
Financial assistance may be available through ACCES-VR, BETC/ECC One Stop, NETC, the US Department of Veterans Affairs or other sources.
A $300 security deposit is required to reserve your spot in this class.
- Tuition does not include steel toe work boots. These are the responsibility of the student to obtain. The approximate cost is $125 and is subject to change.
Admission Requirements
- A TABE score of 9.0 in reading and 8.0 in math*.
- A personal interview will be conducted.
- A valid high school diploma or equivalency.
- A valid NYS Driver’s License.
Employment Outlook
HVAC technicians are in high demand throughout the Western New York region. Entry-level HVAC technicians will find opportunities in equipment installation as well as servicing and repairing existing equipment. The training provided at Erie 1 BOCES mainly focuses on residential and light commercial equipment. However, graduates may also pursue entry-level positions in facilities such as hospitals and colleges. Entry-level HVAC technicians can expect to earn on average $17 to $20 per hour. Some of the companies our graduates have worked for include Capital Heating, Allied Mechanical, Northeast Mechanical, Mesmer Refrigeration, Tri-R Mechanical and M.J. Mechanical.
Erie 1 BOCES also provides services such as placement assistance, resume writing and interview skills to help students in their search for a career as an entry-level HVAC technician.
