Are you looking for a career that will allow you to work with your hands? How about a career that involves problem solving and customer service? As a building maintenance technician, you will work in an environment where your customer service skills are as important as your ability to repair and renovate. Building maintenance technicians are well-rounded in multiple trades including: carpentry, electrical, plumbing and interior finishes. They also interact with commercial and residential tenants, office managers and other building staff on a regular basis. For those who are looking for a trades career where they can use their skills to help people, working as a building maintenance technician can be a fulfilling career choice.
The building maintenance class is designed to give students the skills needed to start a career as a building maintenance technician. The course is broken into four distinct skill areas, all taught by experienced craftspeople. The class covers many skills needed by entry-level building maintenance technicians including rough carpentry (framing), basic plumbing maintenance and repair, basic electrical maintenance and repair and interior finishes (drywall, paint, finish carpentry). (200 Hour Program)

Registration Process
This program requires an application and entrance exam.

Tuition $4,000
Financial assistance may be available through ACCES-VR or other sources.
A $300 security deposit is required to reserve your spot in this class.
- Tuition does not include steel toe work boots. These are the responsibility of the student to obtain. The approximate cost is $125 and is subject to change.
Admission Requirements
- A TABE score of 7.0 in reading and 6.0 in math*.
- A personal interview will be conducted.
Employment Outlook
Entry-level Building Maintenance Technicians can expect to earn an average of $20 to $25 per hour. E1B provides career coaching, resume writing assistance, job search strategies and interview preparation.
*Exceptions to admission scores may be considered based on work history, prior education, personal interview, and employer recommendations.
