Erie 1 BOCES Students Inducted into National Technical Honor Society

The hard work of students in the Career and Technical Education programs of Erie 1 BOCES was recognized as 194 students were inducted into the National Technical Honor Society. 

The students represented a wide range of disciplines from the organization’s Harkness Career and Technical Center, Kenton Career and Technical Center, Potter Career and Technical Center and the Career and Technical Center at Calspan.  

Dr. Matthew Giordano, president of Villa Maria College, which hosted the November 2 ceremony, said the students’ academic development was important for themselves and for the region. 

“We have a lot of challenges and a lot of great opportunities; opportunities that we haven't seen in Buffalo and in Western New York in a long, long time, and they're right here,” he said. “You have the chance to make the most of those opportunities.” 

Among the highlights of the ceremony was the candle lighting ceremony, with students speaking about the values of skill, honesty, service, responsibility, scholarship, leadership and citizenship.  

Lucas Vogel, principal of the Potter Career and Technical Center, told students that one key skill they should develop as they prepare for their future was surrounding themselves with people that would positively impact their growth.  

"I would encourage all of you to take note of those who you can truly trust, those that can be truly honest with you and keep them in your toolbox," Vogel said. 

The National Technical Honor Society, which has nearly one million members nationwide, recognizes and empowers students pursuing Career and Technical Education.
