Lancaster Student Excels in New Visions Program
Lancaster High School senior Kasia Lawrence is thriving in the New Vision Connections: Health-Related Careers program at Oishei Children’s Hospital. Kasia credited the program, which gives honors-level seniors the opportunity to observe all aspects of the medical field in action, with helping her find her path after high school.
“I’ve always wanted to be in the medical field, and this program let me immerse myself in what I love,” she said. “After talking to nurses, techs, and doctors, I’ve decided to become a radiology tech specializing in pediatrics.”
Instructor Shatonia Thornton praised Kasia’s hard work in her studies and her enthusiasm for working with her classmates.
“She is always prepared, smiling, and ready to work,” Thornton said. “She collaborates well with her peers and brings great energy to the class.”
Kasia plans to attend Erie Community College to pursue her career goals and added that she is grateful for the program’s support and inspiration.
The New Vision Connections: Health-Related Careers program gives honors-level seniors the opportunity to observe all aspects of the medical field in action. Students spend the year working with medical professionals in areas of their interest and learn anatomy and physiology, medical terminology, pathophysiology, and disease. Students also observe medical processes and treatments through clinical observation.
