Cheektowaga-Sloan Student Excels in P-TECH BUILD Program at Potter CTE Center
Anthony Urbanczyk, a junior student at JFK High School, said he first joined the P-TECH BUILD program at the Potter Career and Technical Education (CTE) Center as a backup plan for his dreams in sports. The innovative program combines classroom learning with real-world skills to prepare students for careers in skilled trades. In his studies, Anthony has built new skills and a plan for when he finishes high school.
“Being in this program has made me want to do this for a living,” Anthony said.
Program instructor Cameron Wambsganss praised Anthony’s work ethic and leadership.
“Anthony comes to class with the intent to understand the material and be a professional tradesman,” Wambsganss said. “He works in the field on the weekends and shares stories about what he’s accomplished. Anthony easily takes the lead in group projects and collaborates well with his peers to ensure a job is done right.”
Anthony said he plans to attend college to complete his P-TECH degree.
“This program has given me the skills to start a job at a higher position because of how much I’ve learned,” he said. “It’s also provided me with the knowledge to start my own business and graduate ahead of someone just entering the field.”
