A Rising Star in Barbering
Lackawanna Central School District senior Rodney Alls Jr. has become an inspiring example of determination while studying in the Barbering program at the Harkness Career and Technical Education (CTE) Center. After graduating high school, Rodney said he plans to become fully licensed in barbering and to help others.
“This program has provided me an advantage to reach my goals by finding and studying a career while in high school,” Rodney said. “When I get out of high school, I will not have to struggle to find a job.”
Rodney faced a few early challenges when he first enrolled. However, with encouragement from his instructor Julianne Reinard, he honed his skills and built his confidence.
“He is always trying to improve his abilities and at the end of his junior year he was already working towards an internship in a barbering shop full time,” Reinard said. “Now in his senior year he is a role model for the class. He is focused and determined to be successful in this industry.”
Rodney said he initially joined the barbering program because he always kept up on getting his hair cut. The program helps students develop the technical and communication skills required to be successful in a professional shop environment.
“I enjoyed learning different hairstyles,” he said.
As he enters his senior year, Rodney’s focus and determination are evident. He has transformed into a confident student, ready to tackle the challenges of the barbering industry.
“I believe in him and know that he is capable of achieving his goals,” Reinard said.
