Amherst Student is Welding His Future
Ted Tresco is a senior from Amherst Central High School and is enrolled in the Welding program at Erie 1 BOCES Kenton Career and Technical Education Center.
“I enrolled in BOCES because many of my friends and some family members have done really well for themselves with welding,” said Ted.
In the fall of 2024, following graduation, Ted plans on attending one more year of welding-related college.
“After that, I want to start working and saving up some money,” he said.
Under the instruction of Frank Rosiek, Ted has learned about the many different job skills that drive welders down the road of success. A welder’s future can include manufacturing, field work, running their own company and more. There also is a large shortage of welders in the United States, so opportunities for employment are great.
“Ted has been a student who for the past year or so, has gladly shown up, dressed for success and is ready to accept whatever challenges I have placed in front of him,” said Rosiek. “No one else is learning a trade like welding at my age it seems,” said Ted. “I think that doing this program is going to make it a lot easier for me to get my foot in the door with welding-related jobs.”
As part of public education, Erie 1 BOCES offers a variety of career and technical programs during the regular school day to high school students in Erie County. High school students interested in learning more about how they can participate in various programs, such as welding, sports science, web and gaming technologies, nursing or aviation technology, should visit www.e1b.org/cte or speak with their high school counselor.
