October 1st is recognized as the United Nations International Day of Older Persons. It was designated as such on October 1, 1991 as part of the UN’s efforts to begin highlighting situations faced by older people and adopting the ‘World Assembly on Aging”. The 2023 theme is 'Fulfilling the promises of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights for Older Persons.
