Students Inducted into National Technical Honor Society
As a group of 189 students from across Erie 1 BOCES became new members of the National Technical Honor Society, they were told to maintain and cultivate a spirit of exploration.
“If you maintain what you’ve learned here in this experience by being open and curious and wanting to try new things, so many doors are going to open for you, and it will take you to places you could never even imagine,” said Matthew Giardano, president of Villa Maria College, which hosted the November 21 ceremony.
The students inducted during the ceremony came from a wide range of educational programs at the Harkness Career and Technical Center, Kenton Career and Technical Center, Potter Career and Technical Center and the Calspan Career and Technical Education Center. The National Technical Honor Society, which has nearly one million members nationwide, recognizes and empowers students pursuing Career and Technical Education.
During the ceremony, students participated in a candle lighting ceremony, with students speaking about the values of skill, honesty, service, responsibility, scholarship, leadership and citizenship.
Lucas Vogel, principal of the Potter Career and Technical Center, told students to embrace the idea of learning new things, telling the students that the process of building their skills and knowledge “takes courage and an open mind.”
