Frontier High School Students Explore Art and Community at Buffalo AKG
Students in our Erie 1 BOCES Special Education program at Frontier High School recently participated in the Community Access Program at Buffalo AKG Art Museum. Over the course of six consecutive Fridays in November and December, the E1B students joined a Frontier High School class for an enriching art and community experience.
Each session combined opportunities for creative expression and cultural exploration. Students toured different portions of the museum's galleries, gaining exposure to diverse forms of art and engaged in hands-on activities such as pottery and optical art projects.
“This program allowed our students to interact with their peers and the broader community while fostering creativity in a museum environment,” said Erie 1 BOCES teacher, Alma Marranca-Ceccarelli.
The program emphasizes integration, as Marranca-Ceccarelli’s BOCES class is located within Frontier High School rather than at an Erie 1 BOCES center. This unique placement enables students to interact with their peers from Frontier daily, promoting inclusivity and meaningful social experiences.
Students’ completed art pieces will be showcased in a special exhibit at the Buffalo AKG Art Museum in June, highlighting their creativity and hard work.
