Sweet Home Crowned Minecraft Middle School Champs
Team "Emerald Order" from Sweet Home Middle School won first place at a regional Minecraft competition on March 9. More than 30 middle school students participated in the Minecraft Middle School Team Competition at Erie 1 BOCES’ Potter Career & Technical Center.
Eight teams of four students and one teacher competed from the Maryvale, Cleveland Hill, Amherst, Veronica E. Connor (Grand Island) and Sweet Home middle schools. The teams had a set amount of time to construct a working obstacle course in the Minecraft video game’s Creative Mode, followed by a period where they worked on completing those courses created by their fellow competitors. The team that completed the most amount of courses in the shortest amount of time won.
Mr. Schleicher, technology teacher, led Sweet Home’s first place team. His team was comprised of seventh grade students Elijah Cazes, Michael Falzone, Robert Heim and Brennan McCarthy. “Team 6” from Cleveland Hill won second place and third place was awarded to "Team 8" from Cleveland Hill.
Students who participated in this event were encouraged to be creative and develop coding skills. The friendly competition helped students build a sense of camaraderie among themselves and across school districts.
