Section VI is an independent non-profit corporation and one of eleven sections comprising the membership of the New York State Public High School Athletic Association.  NYSPHSAA was formed in 1923 to provide a central association with the dual purpose of establishing principles and procedures for public high school interscholastic athletics and administering programs to provide a wholesome athletic experience for all student athletes.

Within Section VI, there are 95 high schools in 5 leagues throughout Chautauqua, Cattaraugus, Erie, Niagara and Orleans Counties.  Thirty-four sports are represented, involving over 60,000 young men and women on over 3000 teams.  Though each school district is staffed with employees to provide administrative functions necessary for operation, volunteers are essential for the overall operations of Section VI, NYSPHSAA.
