As part of the 2018-2019 Budget, New York State enacted Labor Law Section 201-g, which requires all employers in New York State, including school districts, to adopt a written policy addressing the prevention of sexual harassment in the workplace. The policy must meet certain minimum standards specified in the new law, and be in place by October 9, 2018. After carefully reviewing the new law, model policy released by the state, and accompanying guidance, we determined that the best course of action to demonstrate compliance with these recent developments was to comprehensively update our sample policy 6121, now titled Sexual Harassment in the Workplace. Our updated sample policy tracks with the state’s model policy and has been customized for school districts.
