Master Barber Exam

Master Barber Exam for Licensure in New York State will now be available at Erie 1 BOCES Potter Career & Technical Center. Eligible applicants are required to schedule their barber examination on the New York State e-Licensing system at https://my.ny.gov prior to testing and must receive confirmation from NYS to be able to take the exam.. A $15 non-refundable fee is due at the time of scheduling the examination. Any questions regarding registration for the exam should be directed to New York State.

Exam for Licensure eligibility requirements include successful completion of a course of study (600 hours, or 300 hours if you are a licensed cosmetologist) at an NYS approved school or completion of an apprenticeship as a NYS registered barber apprentice for two years; and completion of a one-time course of study regarding “the transmission of contagious diseases and the proper methods of sanitation and sterilization.”

The NYS Master Barber Practical Exam for Licensure will be given at 4:00 p.m. and 6:00pm on Thursday, October 27 and again on Thursday, November 10, 2016.  Applicants that are scheduled for the exam, must be signed in 15 minutes prior to the start of the exam time. The exam will take place at Erie 1 BOCES Potter Career and Technical Center, 705 Potter Road, West Seneca.
