Day of Remembrance - May 14, 2024
Contributor: The Inclusion.Diversity.Equity.Advocacy. (I.D.E.A) Committee
On May 14th, we commemorate the second anniversary of the tragic racially motivated mass shooting at Tops Friendly Markets on Jefferson Avenue. Erie 1 BOCES Day of Remembrance serves as a solemn occasion to pay tribute to the innocent individuals who lost their lives or were injured during this heartbreaking incident and celebrate unity.
On this day we are offering various ways to pay tribute.
- All staff and students are invited to please wear black, in honor of the lives lost on May 14th, and to demonstrate our solidarity in condemning hate acts and racist assaults that endanger our Black communities. There will be a Moment of Pause in each building, to remember the victims and reflect.
- Please be aware that times may vary to accommodate the differing schedules in each building.
- Art is a form of self expression and can bring great peace to those struggling with the emotions of this day.
- Download the coloring sheet here!
- Or save this file and open with Paint to color digitally!
- Participants have the option to color in the graphic or use the blank side of the page to express their own thoughts to promote ending hate and spreading love.
- Please send photos of completed art or groups working on their pieces to creimer@e1b.org
- Participants may keep their piece as a reminder of the role we all play in creating a brighter future, one with more love and less hate.
